My first husband gave me a "teacup" chihuahua when we were engaged in 1964. We named him "Chipper" as in a chip off the block! At about 1.4 lbs he was a force to be reckoned with but, as the saying goes, his bark was much worse than his bite! I can't recall any incident with biting. When we had a first child Chipper was a force to be reckoned with when he perceived any action with the baby was harmful!! I was 20 years old at that time and now, at 66, I am finding that I want another small dog to care for. I have 2 chinchillas that I adore, but they won't sit still on a lap. I truly love them and I know that their love is returned to me, but I am craving an animal to cuddle with! I had many dogs over the years..my Samoyed, Silverwind natasha, was my favorite for the larger dog class but I lived in the country then. i live in a 1 bedroom apt. now and am quite serious about finding another "small" chihuahua (under 3 lbs). God bless all you animal lovers out there, no matter what they are or how they look, they will return your love a thousand-fold!! Money can't buy that!

I think they are the best loving cute puppy to have around & hope to have her around for a long time. the owners just need to keep an open eye, vet, & follow certain procedures to keep them healthy.

I have a puppy chihuahua and she is Toni im not sure hou much she ways she is 3months old and still fits in my hand I am scared because of all the comenys I have just seen most of them are negative. I love her so much already I've only had her maybe 2weeks the lady I boughter her from was not a breeder her chihuahua just got pregnant by another little chihuahua and so she sold her to us because she lives in an apartment and can't have more then one dog. My little one was the runt of the litter box. she eats well and we give her good healthy food we did our research on that she is very active loves to play and rums threw the whole house she is doing good on pottie traning we have her using a litter box. What I seen in previous comments. Shaw that they don't live longer then 3yrs and I really hope that's not true. All the.comments contradict each other I wish people would stop talking. Out of their ass and actually research shit before they open their mouths if you don't know what. Your talking. About shut up and let the realm experts talk. I want to know the truth not your un qualified opinions. About something you reply don't have a clue on. Puppy mills and back yard breeding is ducking cruel and stupid that I've done research on! How. Would you like to be used and abused like that just because of your looks, strengths, and weaknesses?!

we as of today have 3 chihuahua, one full size around 5lbs, then our teacup that wieghts about 2lbs, both were rescue's and we love them very much. we decided to add a new one, got lucky and found a ruint of the litter ( teacup) for only 200 dollars, she is the sweest thing, sad thing is though she came from a puppy mill, i was so made, i bought her left and called the local policce to nofify them of what was going on. poor baby, when i got her she had over 50 fleas on her, didn't even wiegh 1/2 lb and i 7 weeks. but vet was closed so we stop by petland and they were fanastic helpers, told me what to bath her in to get rid of the flies, then bathed her for me on the house, as they felt so bad for her. that is way we love that store. so yes they are a ton of work and you have to hav vet bills, but the love reward it worth it ten times over, they take my big tough army man of 16 years and turn him into mush. now that' s some doggy power

I have a teacup Chi who lives with my in door 150 lb Rottie. Our Rottie will push him around with his nose but never hurts him. I was nervous about him stepping on the lil guy but he moves out of the way.. No one should judge, or say who these dogs are for, I am sure there are breeders out there that do try to get smaller Chi's same as any other breeder trying to produce smaller, larger, cuter, more wrinkled and so on... Its Life, we have created all of this... These Dogs are fine, they are for anyone.

I have a teacup chi she gets along great with everyone in our family we also have two boxers and to think of the size difference you wonder if they want to hurt her but no they treat her as one of their own and she acts like the boss of them and at first we had housebreaking issues and we had to hand feed her because the old owner spoiled her now she eats out of her own bowl is fully housebroken and is a huge part of our family anyone looking for a great pet the chi is the best choice!!!!! if you want one to be apart of your family owning one is a HUGE commitment and takes alot of responsibility and time on your hands if you cant handle the responsibility never send animals back to a shelter to be abused and to get into fights with other animals just simply find a new home and let them know if they cant handle it bring the dog back to you and not to give it away of send it to the shelter...... SHELTERS ARE NEVER THE ANSWER only if you cant find a home and the shelter is clean and is functional and its separated from other animals. to protect her or him from sickness and to save a new owner alot of time some shelters put animals to sleep if not adopted within 3 weeks so if you notice your dog hasn't been adopted please re own it until you find a new home

I'm a foster mom for a rescue group. I constantly see the shelter postings for dogs going up for euthanasia, and we can only pull one at a time. I recently adopted an 8 year old Albino Chihuahua and you can tell she was overbred in her 8 years of life by looking at her tummy. She is enjoying her freedom and being loved for who she is...not how much money she can make for a backyard breeder! If you ever look at the shelter postings you will see that 70% of the small dogs about to be killed, are Chihuahuas! Please don't buy a Chihuahua unless you are making a lifetime committment to your pet.....They love........they grieve for their owners.......and far too many of them end up at Animal Control or the Shelters!

My 11 year old daughter was just given a "teacup" chi. I wouldn't say their Not for children. It depends on the child. She bought her chi a bed and it's placed by her bed. She carries him every where and it's a better bread for her Allergies. While my daughter is at school her little chi sits with me and my Lab. They cuddle as if my Lab was his mother. It's very cute. My Lab is nothing more then a Big spoiled baby. I hate when people label dogs. It's all in the trainer of the dog as to how a dog will become.

With this litter I have 3 tiny t-cup puppies. These are the smallest we have ever had and the work and care is 24/7. With a chihuahua this little you have to be just like a mother and plan on them being beside you at all times.

I have two teacups, my smaller one is all white and the bigger one is white with tan spots. the smaller one is 1 1/2 pounds. My bigger one is about 2 pounds. From what I understand they are littermates and were not "bred" to be small, or I wouldn't have purchased from that breeder. I guess I just lucked out with getting the runt and a smaller one. Their brother is huge compared to them, about 4 pounds. I REALLY lucked out by getting my puppies at $200 each in KY. I live in Ga and the woman was about to move the very next day and just could NOT keep the dogs. She gave us a good price as if WE were doing her the favor by taking the adorable dogs.

i'm a little worried about the upcoming winter and my little one. she's housebroken and quite enjoys our time outside. when it's been cooler this fall she wears a sweater or coat depending on the temp. yet she'll still do her business outdoors. i've been told by several people that i'm going to have a problem with her in the winter...in other words, she will not 'go' outside in the winter. is there any truth to these comments?
p.s.-i plan on making her wear booties in the winter. is this a good idea?

So tiny, so fragile. A female chi we rescued was very pregnant. She had 3 puppies one 1/2 weeks after coming to our foster home. Two of her puppies are already about 2/3 rds the size of their mama. The third puppy is so tiny... not 1/3 rd (not even a pound at 8 weeks) the size of his brother and sister. We constantly worry about stepping on him or his falling off the sofa (even tho we have doggie steps which he uses). Such a fragile bone structure. We certainly will NOT adopt him to a home with children of any age. I wish these so called "backyard breeders" were all shut down. That is where the mama came from.

if you want a tea cup chihuahua dont expect a cheap
one. those things cost like 1,000 dollars the least
expensive is about 500 dollars so if you can handle
it go ahead but other wise theres alot more you need than just money you need a job and you need
a place for it and spare time plus the 500 ones are hard to find but on the other hand there really cute and cuddly and adorable but be carful there cuteness might suck you into buying one.

Good breeders don't try to produce so-called teacup chihuahuas because they are so hard to keep alive and have many health problems. Not only are their bones fragile and can be crushed easily, they are also prone to low blood sugar and seizures. The breeders who deliberately try to produce tiny chihuahuas often use females under 4 lbs and don't care about the mothers dying while giving birth. There is no such thing as a teacup chihuahua, it's just a made up term to make backyard breeders more money.
