sick chihuahua puppy

your chihuahua can not explain its symptoms, so it’s your responsibility to keep him or her healthy and to determine whether or not they need veterinary care.  chihuahuas tend to want to hide their illness, so it is up to you to check your chihuahua for abnormalities.

not knowing if your chihuahua is feeling sick or how to care for your chihuahua when they are sick can be VERY stressful!  this article will help you determine if your chihuahua is showing signs and symptoms of being ill and when you need to take them to see a veterinarian.

the book caring for chihuahuas made easy gives you preventative measures and solutions to common Chihuahua health problems.  “if your chihuahua is sick or you want to know what to do to keep it from getting sick, then this is an absolute must-read book!”

  • what is the age of your chihuahua?

  • Is your dog having normal bowel movements?
  • when is the last time he/she had a bowel movement?

after answering some general questions, more specific questions need to be answered.  a brief cursory exam of your chihuahua at home can help you determine the answers.  these questions are also commonly asked when chihuahua owners are seeking help over the phone.

My make 7yr old chihuahua is experiencing dizzy spells. He can’t walk straight, and is wobbling and falling over. Is this something normal for the breed? He’s never done this before. I’ve read a few articles saying its common and some say they are lacking certain vitamins. It’s been going on for about 15 minutes now. I really don’t have the money right now for a vet visit because I recently lost my job. Any help?

My dog is about 3/4 months old.. I got him when he was 2 months. He’s a very happy dog but his teeth fell off already and I’m not sure if he swallowed them because I never noticed till the next morning. He was fine at first, I would take him for walks and he’d run around the grass crazy. After a while I noticed he’s been so down hardly eating or drinking been doing diarrhea.. he’s really skinny I tried feeding him Gerber banana baby food… he just threw it up and gave him did diarrhea and he’s been throwing up its been two days tonight he started foaming. That really made me panic so I’m taking him to vet tomorrow afternoon.. I’m just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

His symptoms are not himself, more shakey than usual, lethargic, barely drinking now, somewhat eating but not like himself, I also thought one of the bigger dogs stepped on him but his walk is getting worse and now he is yelping when his underbelly is touched very gently…I have noticed just now when walks he is yelping out and hard to lay down….please help he is my bestfriend…if you only knew what he means to me and my son..

all of the sudden my chihuahua (he’s 10 or 11) is hunched over with hischin to his chest with a weird smile on his face and seems slow and dopey this is not like him he eats and seems to drink has gone to the bathroom but, doesn’t seem right did he have a stroke or something or is he sick with the doggy flu never had a problem in all this time till last nite

My 2 yr old chihuahua has yelped twice today for no reason which he has never done before. Hes eating normal and still runs around and plays. No sign of any pain every where I’ve touched nor is he licking a certain spot which usually shows thats where he may be hurting from. Hes never been sick but can’t pinpoint what’s wrong. He will yelp so i hold him for a sec and hes ok but has his tail between his legs as well. =(

In the last week my 3 and a half year old purebred chi has started to yelp, just once but loudly for no apparent reason. To me this seems like pain but where? He is eating fine (picky as usual, lol) but he does eat his food, runs seemingly normally, walks normally and I have touched him from his nose to the tip of his tail and he doesn’t show any signs of pain. I have watched him pee and poop on his pads and no pain then. No blood in either. However with all this absense of symptoms he still just yelps, maybe once a day and I can’t figure out what brings it on. He isn’t jumping up or down and in fact sometimes is just lieing down in the morning under the covers as usual and all of a sudden with no movement – yelps. Just once.

Any ideas on what could be the problem? He has always seemed a little sensitive to this tail and his butt (anal glands seem to fill more than normal) but this is different – usually anal gland issues are more about scooting on the carpet or licking his butt a lot.

    I’m confused. Helpppppppppppppppp. Thanks.

I have recently noticed my 1 year old male Chihuahua not eating his dog food as much as he used to, it sits in his bowl all day and he barely ever goes near it and he doesn’t drink as much as I’d like. I’ve also noticed him frequently taking sneezing episodes and a runny clear discharge coming from his nose, his paws/coat are always cold and he is shaky quite a bit which he never was before. Is there anything I should be worried about?
